Essence Healthcare and Purkinje Merge

ST. LOUIS — Purkinje, a healthcare technology and services company, has merged with Essence Healthcare, a Medicare Advantage health plan. The new company is called ESSENCE, and is a combination of software, services and insurance products.

Three sections of the company include the:

ESSENCE health plan

A Medicare Advantage health plan model, the benefits of which are designed and directed by local physicians in each plan's community. Doctors are given the flexibility to make care decisions and are rewarded for investing in their patients' long-term health, according to an ESSENCE press release.

CARESERIES

An Internet-based integrated system for practice management, electronic medical records, electronic prescribing and revenue cycle management. The system is available for a monthly subscription fee.

DRx

An in-office medication dispensing program that allows clinicians to distribute prepackaged pharmaceuticals to patients at the point of care.
