NJ Urgent Care Doc Calls Haiti Mission ‘Life Changing’

02/05/2010

CAPE MA, N.J.—Cape May Urgent Care Medical Director Dr. Bill Weisberg recently returned from Haiti where he spent a “life-changing” two weeks aiding victims of the Jan. 12 earthquake. Weisberg is the senior medical officer for New Jersey-One Disaster Medical Assistance Team, part of the National Disaster Medical System. His team also was on the front lines helping during the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Ike.

As reported by the Cape May County Herald, the day after the earthquake, Weisberg met with his team in Atlanta, received immunizations and boarded a charter flight to Haiti. He is part of a 35-person team that includes several doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, paramedics, pharmacists, a mental health worker and logistics persons.

His medical team combined with another medical team treated 600 injured Haitians on one day and had several other days of treating more than 500 persons. A highlight of his two weeks in Haiti was delivering two babies.
