Wall Street Journal: Occupational Healthcare is Growing
11/19/2008
A recent Wall Street Journal article examined the growing trend of employers offering on-site clinics — a trend gathering steam as more companies attempt to reduce their overall healthcare spending by focusing more attention on preventing illness, including complications from such conditions as hypertension and diabetes. Specific offerings include workplace health clinics for employees; preventive services are often free (while other treatments carry a low co-pay); and companies can pass their savings to workers by lowering premiums. However, doctors groups say the clinics should augment a general practitioner's care, not replace it.
