SmartCare closes 15 Wal-Mart clinics in Colorado
06/25/2008
SmartCare Family Medical Centers last week closed 15 health clinics that were in Wal-Mart stores throughout Colorado. Wal-Mart officials did not have prior notice, according to an article in the Rocky Mountain News. The clinics were staffed with nurse practitioners and were open seven days a week. Wal-Mart contracts with several clinic operators nationwide and still welcomes the retail clinic business model, company spokesman William Wertz told the Rocky Mountain News. Wertz does not know yet what will happen to the empty centers, but Wal-Mart could forge a partnership with local medical centers, he added. For the complete story click here.
